Boom! Studios "Angel #1" - What we know so far

Boom! Studios revealed the details behind Joss Whedon's "Angel #1" hitting the shelves on May 29, 2019. Written by Bryan Hill (Detective Comics) with art from Gleb Melnikov (Saban's Go Go Power Rangers) together with visionary writer and director Joss Whendon (Buffy the Vampire Slayer).

Meet Angel – a vampire cursed with a soul who has spent centuries protecting humanity from the monsters that lurk in the dark in an attempt to redeem himself for the crimes committed by the monster he was when he was first turned. But now, when the trail of the most recent demonic uprising takes him to Sunnydale, he realizes that the restoration of his humanity can only come if he takes one more life: a certain Slayer from Sunnydale who he’s never met…but may now be his greatest enemy. The brooding, dark vampire with a soul has just left the city of lights after marking another death on the never-ending list of debts he owes against his soul. Is he ready for one last sacrifice if it brings his long sought after peace?

Angel #1 will feature a main cover by artist Dan Panosian (Batman: Arkham Knight) and a monster-themed variant cover by Scott Buoncristiano (Buffy the Vampire Slayer) featuring Der Kindestod, from Buffy the Vampire Slayer season two episode "Killed by Death".

“We got our first taste of Angel in yesterday’s game-changing BUFFY #4 and surprise release of ANGEL #0, but that’s only the start of the newly reimagined vampire’s story in this modern Buffyverse.” said Jeanine Schaefer, Executive Editor, BOOM! Studios. “The questions weighing on Angel — the possibility of redemption, whether or not we own our own mistakes, and how we weigh the value of the lives around us versus our own — remain extremely relevant today. Bryan and Gleb are tackling that head on, set against the centuries long backdrop of the horrors Angel has seen and committed, revealing aspects of Angel’s history that are sure to shock longtime fans.”

Boom! Announces "The Grand Abyss Hotel" Graphic Novel

Boom! Studios announced "The Grand Abyss Hotel" graphic novel to be published in May 2019. Written by Marcos Prior and Eisner-nominated artist David Rubín, "The Grand Abyss Hotel" is a timely graphic novel set in a world that big business and fake news are controlling social media machine.

The science fiction graphic novel is perfectly mirroring our world and the situation we are facing on a day to day basis but in return, it multiplies the effect a "few" times.

“We created THE GRAND ABYSS HOTEL in the spirit of the greatest science fiction, acting a mirror to the world to help reveal a type of violence that, unlike purely physical, primary and spectacular violence, tends to remain hidden,” said writer Marcos Prior. “It’s the symbolic violence – both institutional and economic – that remains invisible although its effects may be more lasting and devastating than the more visible physical kind.”

“With THE GRAND ABYSS HOTEL, Marcos and I don’t want to give answers about the political and social moment that we are all living all over the World. Instead, we want to make people think about their role in the chaotic times that we live in,” said artist David Rubín. “By asking that question, we hope it helps you find your own role in the larger social and political landscape. The best weapon to fight against corrupt systems is simply an idea. Believe me, nothing is more dangerous to a bad person than asking the questions that empower the masses.”
