Introduction

A few days after I shared a preview of Banana Blitz!, I was lucky enough to receive a near-final version of the full first book, and honestly, I’m in awe. There’s something special about finally holding (or reading) something you’ve been eagerly anticipating. It’s one of the reasons I love indie comics and supporting crowdfunding campaigns, you’re not just backing a book, you’re building a connection with the creator. And when that payoff lands, like it does here, it feels genuinely rewarding.

Story

Banana Blitz! is a fast-paced, laugh-out-loud adventure that blends mystery, a dash of horror, and enough wild twists to keep you hooked from page one. The story follows Evelyn “Eve” Atlas, a starry-eyed dreamer dead-set on exploring the universe. But first, she needs a spaceship, and a whole lot of cash to build it. Her latest scheme? Get her hands on a high-end camera and cash in on the spooky secrets of Clark Town.

Things go sideways when she gets caught in the middle of a store robbery. Enter Harry, the eccentric store manager, who strikes her a deal: help outsmart the robbers, and the camera is hers. (And no, this isn’t some bargain bin junk, we’re talking high-stakes, high-reward gear.)

What follows is a chaotic, Home Alone-style showdown with Eve and Harry teaming up to survive the night, while the rest of the store crew, Yashi and Robbie, get pulled into the madness, some more willingly than others. The cast is where this comic really shines: Eve is driven and relatable, Harry has strong “retired veteran with a screw loose” energy, Robbie’s reluctantly along for the ride, and Yashi… well, Yashi might be enjoying this a little too much.

It’s a quirky, grounded kickoff to a story that’s clearly gearing up for something even bigger and weirder, and I’m all in.

Art

Let me put on my art hat for a second, even if it's a bit lopsided. I wouldn’t call myself an expert, so take this with a grain of salt, but I found Banana Blitz! to be bright, colorful, and downright inviting. There’s a warmth to it that makes the world feel cozy, even when things get chaotic.

The comic kicks off with cosmic grandeur, building a whole universe of weirdness, then zooms all the way down to Clark Town, this tiny, eccentric community that feels like it could fit in the palm of your hand. There’s got to be a term for this kind of visual storytelling, where scale shifts dramatically, but it never feels disjointed. Whatever that is, Banana Blitz! nails it.

Visually, the influences are clear. The art draws from Eiichiro Oda (One Piece) and Skottie Young (I Hate Fairyland), and no, I’m not just showing off, I know this because the creator outright says so (okay, maybe I’m showing off a little). But even as someone who’s not deep into art analysis, I could see it. The exaggerated expressions, wild character designs, and bouncy energy all reflect that playful lineage. It’s a perfect match for the story being told.

Conclusion

All in all, Banana Blitz! is a stellar debut, quirky, heartfelt, and bursting with potential. The story is fast-paced and funny, with just enough mystery and world-building to keep you curious about what’s around the next corner (or hiding behind the next raccoon). And the art? It’s got personality for days, warm, expressive, and perfectly tuned to the comic’s chaotic energy. Whether you’re here for cryptids, cosmic weirdness, or just a good old-fashioned heist gone off the rails, this one’s worth your time. I’m fully onboard for whatever comes next, camera in hand, ready to explore the Beyond.
