Near death, Adam wakes in a hospital bed. His life was saved by experimental means. He is forever changed... no longer human. Now, something else...
What is this horrible sound that only he seems to be able to hear? Is this all in his head?
Something is coming. Something from the far-reaches of space. Does Adam have any humanity left? Or is this the end of Adam, and everything else as we know it?
Introduction
Futility Shapes blends two of my favorite genres—sci-fi and horror—with a possible third: the creeping dread of an impending apocalypse. I’ve always loved post-apocalyptic stories, whether in comics or novels, but there's something especially gripping about the tension that builds before the end hits. Edward Kane seems to have captured all of that in this one-shot. As he puts it, “This is a complete story—no cliffhanger ending!” That line alone fills me with the kind of unease I crave in a good dystopian tale. The doom of the human race might be coming—but we’ll have to wait and see.
